Someone had a twisted sense of humor when He gave me 2 boys. Seriously.
I wasn't the epitome of girly-girl, but I am a card carrying makeup, perfume, and hair product junkie. I subscribed to allure, In Style, Lucky, and Glamour. I haunted the beauty counters of many a department store and several Sephoras in the area.
Now I'm lucky if I put on a swipe of mascara once a week.
Not that I'm complaining TOO much about that...it IS cheaper not to buy every new goodie that comes out. Cute sweatpants, jeans, and t-shirts beat the heck out of the push-up bras, corsets(yep, had a vintage one), heels and short skirts I wore to the salon. What I'm concerned about is the distinct shift in my house to "the testosterone zone". As the only estrogen-rich person in this house, I am seriously outnumbered.
When I was pregnant, I had dreams of little dresses, overalls with pink t-shirts, and mary-janes. Well, I have the overalls anyway. Don't get me wrong-I love my boys with every fiber of my being-but I need some foofyness around here!
It doesn't help that I am having a huge case of baby fever. Cameron is not a baby anymore, despite being only 16 months old. That kid has more guts, and more independence than his brother had. I can't turn my head without him climbing up and dancing on the kitchen table. He's all boy and has a stubborn streak a mile wide(from his dad of course). Connor is such a big boy now I can hardly believe he is the same baby I cried over each day after he was born 3 months early. He will be 4 next month, and while I'm excited for him to go to school next year, part of me wants to keep him home, where he's safe.
Which brings me to my current brand of nutty-I know that all kids get booboos, and climb, and scream, and wrestle, but since I was raised without boys, I am having a hard time with the sheer exuberance of being a boy. THEY.JUST.DON'T.STOP. These little doods go-go-go from sunup to sundown, and leave a trail of destruction in their wake. Each time I get used to one aspect of being a boy, BAM! I get hit with a new one. Just this morning, for example, I sat on a wet toilet seat. Courtesy of a newly-standing-to-pee 3 year old. Then came the realization that the hit to the mouth Connor took yesterday thanks to running around the house and meeting the fireplace hearth face to face has given us Connor's first loose tooth. Sweet!
Let's just say that if we ever get a dog, IT WILL BE A GIRL!!

Boys, boys, boys...

LOL, too funny! As a mom of two daughters, wanna trade?
I once heard a someone call boys, "Bears with furniture" (maybe Rita Rudner) - it's so true!
Although I agree with your comments on boys, since I have one of each, I have to say that in my experience - boys are still easier. ;-) Girls are very dramatic and emotional. I'm not really one of those kind of girls so the girlie stuff annoys me probably more than it should.
Then again, I get to buy girlie clothes for her, which I triple love. ;-)
I've got two of each and my wildest and most destructive toddler was a girl! She is now a 15 1/2 year old hormonal nightmare.
Boys are waaaaayyyyy easier, I promise!
I think we already had this talk. As a mom with two boys and two girls, the boys were MUCH harder little ones. They were non-stop energy. The girls are active, but not near the degree my boys were. But, the girls are emotional basketcases. Which is getting worse and worse, so my thought is, in completely different ways, little boys and big girls are the most challenging in their own ways.
After all the trips to the ER, broken furniture, coloring on the walls...now, they ignore me for the most part except when the are hungry, which is ALL THE TIME!
I feel your pain though, sister, little boys are exhausting.
Oh, I forgot to add, I had this little sign I found once and had hanging in the house,
"A mother of boys works from son up to son down."
SO TRUE!
HHAA!! A wet toilet seat, huh?
One time my brother left the seat up (Imagine!) and in the middle of the night I went in for a pee (I sit at night, I don't want to turn any lights on...) and I went right in the toilet. I actually woke him up to yell at him. :)
The fireplace, huh? Ouch.
I've only had to deal with girls.
I don't think I could have handled boys.....and since my ex-husband was never around when my children were growing up~it was probably just as well that I had girls.
But I gotta say~the emotional, hormonal stuff?!? Not fun!
LOL--I only have one girl, so I can't really relate, but I love the fact that if you get a dog it will be a girl!
LOL!
Tomboys are probably the worst. They play like boys but (at least when they reach their teens) they still get the emotional junk.
I would know--being a former tomboy. ;)
I understand believeeee me !
I have 4 boys and 1 girl. Fate of course made sure she was a tomboy.
Now as shes headed towards 13 and the moodiness and temperment has kicked in ...I'm scared!
i wanted a girl, too, but now i'm happy i had a boy. i hear girls are the real nightmare...
oh, and i'm happy now with my female CAT!
I fully understand. When I found out I was pregnant with a girl I started buying pink and I haven't stopped. Husband suggested SHE could wear son's old clothes. Gasp! Nevah!
I feel blessed to have one of each. Now I get all of the carnage and hormones. But I absolutely LOVE shopping for my daughter. Girls' clothes are so much more fun than boys' clothes.
haha! Thanks. I know want to have another girl.
(pictures the hormonal cat fights in the back of the car.)
Hrm.
We have been to the ER so many times I have lost count...
But, they're still easier than their sister!
Hahaha! Woooo, boys! I always wanted to be a boy (as a young girl) so I'm having fun eating dirt and ants with Archer. In makeup. And heels. Oops.
I too am the only girl in the house. I think on the bright side, it lets me stay the princess forevah! Evil laugh here.

just came back from 2 weeks vacation in frnace with 2 more couples and their kids (our friends):
6 adults, 3 4 year old girls, 1 boy (2 and a half) and 2 baby girls.
I have to admit that having so many girls around us, really freaked the boy and really freaked me, thinking how hard it is to have a boy (at least till dating starts and then I'm becoming caveman).
Anyone with boys - I give the standing ovation.
btw, just got to your site and loving it.
mothers of boys work from son up to son down. enjoy!
I can totally relate, as the mother of a 4-year-old boy. Nonstop bundle of energy ... though given the choice, I'd choose a boy. His little girlfriend is completely different, melodramatic, whiny, etc. 'Course that might be her. ;)
My brother put my mother to the test...
and when my four male cousins came over... our house was NEVER the same...
They were like a tornado...
We never did see the eye of the storm... Just the aftermath...
It is funny how much our lives are ruled by the gender of our children. Whether we are chasing little boys and wiping toilet seats or picking up our drama queens off the floor after another tantrum and wiping toilet seats. (Girls can be messy too.)
I am looking forward to doing girlie spa days and shopping trips with my girls. However I sure would love the adoring, unconditional worship of a boy.
I have 3 boys and let me just tell you how much fun it is when they get older and start beating the shit out of eachother! :)
No, seriously though, I wouldn't have it any other way. Boys are low maintenance and they don't play head games.
As for the dog? I definitely had to get a girl. I get my girly fix by putting bows in HER hair.
I have two boys too - ages nearly 8 and the little one is 27 months. Trouble!
We have a girl dog though...too bad she's a neurotic mess and licks her own bad self, otherwise I'd have someone to talk to.
I agree- trust me the grass is greener. I always thought I'd want boys. Then my sister had my neice and I fell in love with the idea of having a girl, which I did. And trust me, with a girl comes 'tude. LOL. Even at 18 months. Small body big TUDE.
i know nothing about boys, except they apparently pee a lot, and on the toilet instead of IN it, that is all i ever hear from boy-mommies, lol!
I tried to leave a comment earlier. Blogger is being a jerk. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love yours and will be back.
My boys are little hooligans too. But my daughter is worse!! LOL
I came here from Girl's Gone Child-I have two boys, ages 10 and 7, and their bathroom always smells like they just peed on the floor. Even though they swear they don't. We had a "happy surprise" baby girl last year, and so far she is pretty easy, although much more demanding than they were. But at least we balance out all the testosterone in the house.
It's funny, i was convinced when I was pregnant that I'd be having a boy. I was ready for blue jeans and rugby shirts, trucks and blocks and roughhousing. When I found out I was having a girl I was a little confused and not sure how things would go. Of course I got used to it, and when Rosie was born I felt a bit relieved because at that point I knew what to expect with girls.
But I remember being at a friends' house and watching her boy and a neighbor run circles around the kitchen, while toddler Mimi just stood in one place and watched them run on by. That seemed to cinch it for me -- how different life would have been with boys.
LOL- mine is only 7 months old and he has that no fear attitude already. I swear he hits his head about 10 times a day, and most of the time he just laughs it off and keeps moving.
ugh. you give me so much to look forward to. maybw i should jsut send him to your house -- so you can put him in dresses ; )

Ha! You crack me up.
I'm so damn glad I have a girl.
Hmmm..sometimes I would trade the world of Barbie in for a rought wild little guy. But only the Barbie and princess thing. The rest of having girls, I'm okay with.
I've got all the foofyness that I can stand with one little girl. I could spare some if you'd like a little extra foof to offset the testosterone in your house.
The thing is...I have two boys and a girl. I would take the boys any day of the week. I love my Diva to the core of my being, but she kicks my ass in the fiercest of ways every single day.
Boys are loud and move around alot. But girls? That's psychological warfare. Every. Day.
lol and you can be sure you make that happen!!! i love having a girl!
I've got three girls and only one boy. I have to say the emotional ride around here is much more difficult than dealing with loose teeth. The grass is always greener, I guess.
